My Sister's Keeper was written by Jodi Picoult. In this novel, Kate Fitzgerald stand as the girl with cancer. She has lived with it since she was little. However, without her sister's genetic match and organs, Kate wouldn't be able to live. Her sister was Anna Fitzgerald. Her embryo was genetically engineered in a lab to save her sister's life. At first, no one thought much of how this would affect Anna, especially her mother Sara, who refused to believe that Anna would receive harm from taking part in these surgeries for her sister. But, as Anna grew older, she suddenly began to question whether she was here because her parents wanted her, or because they only needed to her to save her sister, Kate. Anna wanted to feel important. Like Kate is loved for who she is, Anna wants to loved and known for something other than Kate's 'savior sibling'. A 'savior sibling' is someone who has been transformed in a lab to donate tissue and organs to a sibling. After being put through surgeries all of her life, at the age 13, she decides she has had enough. She saves up her own money, and takes it to Campbell Alexander. Campbell is known as a professional attorney who has been able to win over many judges in a plethora of cases. Anna has decided she's going to stop donating to her sister. She goes to Campbell to gain medical emancipation from her parents. Medical emancipation means Anna will be given the rights to her own body and she will make her own medical decisions. The conflict is that she must choose between her sister and herself. Anna has an external conflict with her parents and her sister about whether or not she would be able to go to court and fight for her rights, being a mere 13 years old. This book will play with your emotions and persuade you to keep turning the pages.
The type of reader that would enjoy My Sister's Keeper would be someone who likes to have multiple emotions as they read through a book. The kind of person that likes surprises at every corner would enjoy this book. It deals with a very debated and sensitive topic, and by doing this Jodi Picoult is able to arouse some interest to learn about whether or not savior siblings should be banned/allowed. It's in the fiction genre, with some nonfiction and realistic aspects. Also, Jodi Picoult does a stupendous job bringing out imagery and figurative language to help the reader feel as though they are apart of the story. If you are the kind of reader that likes to be able to imagine what's happening in the story, then this is your story.
I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars, because I commend the author on being able to allow us to imagine the happenings in the book. Also, the idea or the topic of the story was extremely interesting and created curiosity throughout the story. Jodi Picoult had a unique way of changing your emotions to keep you engaged as a reader. Sometimes you would sob, sometimes you would be furious, and other times you just felt happy for the characters. I didn't give this book 5 stars due to the fact that Jodi Picoult tends to add in multiple conflicts all at once, as well as adding multiple supporting characters which causes you to confuse what is really happening to the characters. This was one of the best books I've ever read because I felt as though I was engaged in the conflict and story, however it was very easy to confuse characters and the happenings of the book. Jodi Picoult utilized diction and an interesting topic to create a book I could reread many, many times.

You did a great job describing the plot of the story. It sounds very interesting and seems like it would make you think. I understand why Anna would feel like she was being used just to save her sister. I was surprised though, that she would go that far and get medical emancipation. From what you said about the book, it seems like a very good story and I will definitely read it in the future.
